The
West Coast Collaborative is a public-private partnership working
to reduce diesel emissions along the West Coast. The Collaborative
is the first pilot of EPA’s National
Clean Diesel Campaign.
October 16, 2006: Clean Diesel Hospital Zones Project
EPA, City ofPortland, State of Oregon, and Other Partners Present Innovative Clean Air Initiatives
At Portland’ s South Waterfront, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency presented a $250,000 grant to the Clean Diesel Hospitals Leadership Group for the "Clean Diesel Hospital Zones" project, in which four of Oregon’s hospitals will take steps to reduce emissions from their opreations to protect local air quality.
To kick off the "Clean Diesel Hospital Zones" project, Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), Legacy Health System, Providence Health System and Kaiser Hospitals signed a commitment to reduce diesel emissions from their own operations. They will next direct their suppliers, vendors, service providers and contractors working on new construction projects to reduce diesel emissions.

PROPOSED BUDGET
On February 6, 2006, the President announced
his proposed Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 budget. The FY07 EPA
proposed budget has allocated $50 million for the Clean Diesel
Initiative (also known as the National Clean Diesel Campaign),
in which the West Coast Collaborative plays a significant
