West Coast Collaborative: Public-private partnership to reduce diesel emissions

The FY 2006 President’s Budget provides $15.0 million for the Clean Diesel Initiative. EPA and a coalition of clean diesel interests will work together to expand the retrofitting of diesel engines into new sectors by adopting a risk-based strategy, targeting key places and working with specific use sectors to identify opportunities to accelerate the adoption of cleaner technologies. Through regional efforts like the West Coast Collaborative, the Initiative will support diesel engine retrofits, rebuilds, and replacements, anti-idling measures, clean fuel infrastructure projects, and other activities to achieve more immediate air quality improvements.

This allocation is an example of an early success of the West Coast Collaborative. The Collaborative will demonstrate the success of public/private partnerships and will be used to grow the program nationally.
