Hydraulic Hybrid UPS Delivery Truck Demonstration in the San Joaquin Valley

Location: California: San Joaquin Valley

The San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District (SJVUAPCD) has been funded $300,000 by the U.S. EPA to demonstration a hydraulic hybrid United Parcel Service (UPS) delivery vehicle in the San Joaquin Valley. The SJVUAPCD will contribute $100,000 in matching funds, as well as in-kind support towards the replacement of existing diesel engines with new hydraulic hybrid engine systems. Two delivery vehicles will be tested and deployed in the Valley. The demonstration project will assess the performance of these vehicles in typical fleet service. In addition, it will determine if the vehicle meets the performance requirements and if reductions in fuel and maintenance costs show that a business case can be made for purchase of these vehicles.
