Metrolink Selective Catalytic Reduction and Pacific Harbor Line Diesel Particulate Filter

Location: South Coast Air Basin, California

EPA is providing a $200,000 grant to the South Coast Air Quality Management District with leveraging of over $716,000 for two projects: demonstration of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) on a Metrolink locomotive engine; and demonstration of a diesel particulate filter (DFP) on a Pacific Harbor Line switch locomotive. Both projects are expected to significantly reduce emissions in the South Coast Air Basin, thereby benefitting residents living near the Pacific Harbor Line and Metrolink lines and stations. The SCR project is expected to achieve over 50 percent particulate matter reductions and 80 to 90 percent reductions in nitrogen oxides, while the DPF project is expected to reduce particulate matter by approximately 90 percent.
