LNG Hybrid Yard Hostler Demonstration and Commercialization Project

Location: Long Beach, California

The purpose of this project is to evaluate the performance of hybrid yard hostlers in day-to-day operations at a marine terminal. The Port of Long Beach will research and purchase three hybrid yard hostlers and put them into service at the Long Beach Container Terminal. Project activities include a six-month performance evaluation (using categories such as fuel economy and operator acceptance) relative to baseline diesel yard hostlers, emissions testing relative to baseline diesel yard hostlers, and the creation of a business case assessment for broader use of hybrid yard hostlers both inside and outside of the marine sector.
