Ongoing Grant Opportunities and Resources

Private Foundations

"We're very mindful of the fact that thousands of people die from diesel pollution each year."

Terry Tamminen, Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency

Ben & Jerry's Foundation Grants for Social Change

Ben & Jerry's Foundation, endowed by the makers of Cherry Garcia and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice creams, offers grants of $1,001 to $15,000 for programs working for social, institutional, or environmental change. The foundation generally sponsors 501(c)(3) or fiscally sponsored nonprofit organizations with budgets under $250,000 per year. It does not offer grants to social service programs. They require an initial letter of interest, after which they will notify you as to whether you have been invited to submit a full proposal. For more information, please visit, http://www.benjerry.com/foundation/index.html. Grant proposals are evaluated on a year round basis; the processing time is up to eight weeks.

Funders Network
This is an active resource and focal point for foundations, nonprofit organizations and other partners working to solve the environmental, social, and economic problems created by suburban sprawl and urban disinvestment.

The Foundation Center
The purpose of the Foundation Center is to facilitate connections between grantmakers and grantseekers and offers a variety of resources and tools to accomplish this goal.

The Turner Foundation supports projects in several areas, including the protection of the atmosphere and other natural resources by promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and improved transportation policies and practices. The Foundation makes annual funding decisions based on timely and relevant needs, and selects from proposals that are apart of their invitation-only grant policy.
