New
Starts Capital Investment Program
Projects eligible for FTA Section 5309 New Starts funding include
any fixed guideway system which utilizes and occupies a separate right-of-way,
or rail line, for the exclusive use of mass transportation and other
high occupancy vehicles, or uses a fixed catenary system and a right
of way usable by other forms of transportation. This includes, but
is not limited to, rapid rail, light rail, commuter rail, automated
guideway transit, people movers, and exclusive facilities for buses
(such as bus rapid transit) and other high occupancy vehicles.

Transportation Equity Act for
the 21st Century
TEA-21 provides funding for planning, including freight planning.
TEA-21 authorizes the Federal surface transportation programs for
highways, highway safety, and transit for the 6-year period 1998-2003.

Vision 100 provides funding for airport expansion planning; primary
funding sources for airport improvement projects and also fund important
noise mitigation issues

(ITS) Deployment Program

to improve the measures of effectiveness of our national highway

The Technical Assistance program is composed of a variety of
areas that help transportation professionals in their efforts
to achieve ITS deployment.

The program is designed to provide short-term assistance to address
specific, technical issues. Some issues may be resolved directly
by Program staff; other specific, technical issues may be addressed
through assistance from a Peer. The Program is unique in its
focus on public sector Peers to deliver technical assistance
to public agencies. Over 200 professionals lend their expertise
to the Peer-to-Peer Program on a voluntary basis and every Peer
is selected based upon his/her qualifications, background, and experience
and is then matched to a request for assistance.
Borders
and Corridors Programs
Program designed to provide allocations to States and metropolitan
planning organizations (MPOs) for the planning, design, and construction
of corridors of national significance, economic growth, and international
or interregional trade.
The Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) Inherently Low-Emission Airport Vehicle Pilot Program
(ILEAV)
The FAA’s ILEAV Pilot Program has awarded grants to 10 public-use airports
located in air quality non-attainment areas. The grants are providing funds for
the acquisition of low-emission airport use vehicles and associated handling
facilities for alternative fuels. The FAA is authorized to make grants of not
greater than $2 million to each of no more than 10 airports with a requirement
for 50% matching funds. The program has a projected $41 million in overall investment
including matching funds and funding partnerships with industry. The program
was coordinated with the Federal Transit Administration, Department of Energy,
and the EPA.
